Take a minute to think of all of the words that describe FAMILY.

Maybe you thought of love, safe, forever. Or maybe complicated, loud, or chaos. Family can be all of these things, the good and the bad. But did any of you think of the word perfect? My family is everything to me, but perfect is just not a realistic description.

If “perfect” is not an accurate picture of our families, why do we typically go to our family photo sessions hoping to portray perfection? Even the thought of having my kids, and my husband, sit still in the perfect pose with the perfect smile on their face is completely overwhelming. Well, I am here to tell you that this year I am focusing more on the love and connection you share with your family, and less focus on the not-so-realistic perfection in your family session. Let’s talk, play games, laugh, snuggle the little ones, and maybe even dance to show who you really are as a family. Don’t worry, we will still get a few posed pictures that the grandparents are hoping to hang on their wall, but the rest of the session will focus on highlighting the love in your family.

I want Nikki Gentry Photography to be an enjoyable experience for the whole family. If we are not relaxed and having fun during our session, I have not accomplished one of my highest goals. Words from a parent during one of my family sessions last year made me realize this change is absolutely necessary. The words were “we are not here to have fun, we are here for pictures. Now smile”. There is no worse feeling to me as a photographer than to feel like I’m being paid to torque your family. I know this is totally common feeling as a parent at a family session, but I just can’t have it said about Nikki Gentry Photography! Let’s create an experience that you can actually enjoy! Let’s create images that you not only can see your special connection, but that make you feel it! Here are a few examples of the connection I hope to capture for your family!
